March means Heartworm Clinics are back!
There are many new developments with heartworm disease in Colorado. First, regarding the western part of the country, Colorado ranks #2 with the highest number of heartworm-infected dogs!! Second, our clinic has just finished treating a dog with heartworm disease and has just diagnosed another dog (who has never left Fort Collins!) with heartworm disease!! Third, two people witnessed mosquitoes flying around.....in January! One was in fact our technician who was bitten by a mosquito. In light of all of these developments, we are now recommending all dogs be on heartworm prevention year-round! It is much easier, cheaper and safer for your dog to prevent heartworm disease than to treat it! March is Heartworm month. During March, heartworm tests are $15 and Saturday heartworm clinics will be held March 14th, 21st and 28th. Heartworm tests need to be performed every year!
