 PLEASE HELP US HELP HUMPHREY!!!

Humphrey is a 7-year old Lab who is in need of a home.  We first met Humphrey in February when someone noticed he was very sick.  His former owner would not take him to a vet so this person intervened on Humphrey's behalf to get him some help.  Humphrey was in a diabetic crisis and had secondary pancreatitis.  He had horrible abdominal pain, could not stop vomiting, extremely high blood glucose and required hospitalization in a critical care facility for 2 days to manage all of his symptoms.  Humphrey's former owner did not want to treat him but rather requested we euthanize him.  Since our clinic has a policy of not euthanizing any animal with a treatable condition, we instead had the owner relinquish Humphrey into our care and began working with Safe Harbor Lab Rescue to get him well and into a new home.  Humphrey spent the weekend at the Lemay Veterinary Emergency Hospital in Fort Collins and in a short time, was back to his normal bouncy self.  Humphrey has been fostered by our technician intern Tania and spends every day with us at the clinic.  His diabetes is now under control and he is ready for a new home.  Safe Harbor Lab Rescue has been instrumental in helping us with Humphrey.  We have donated all goods and services towards Humphrey's care at our clinic but he incurred a rather large bill at the emergency clinic and we are asking for monetary donations to help with those charges.  Safe Harbor Lab Rescue is a non-profit organization and all donations to them in Humphrey's name are tax-deductible.

As of 3/8/09, we have raised $450 for Humphrey.  We still need almost $2000.  If you would like to help, please make checks payable to Safe Harbor Lab Rescue and mail to our clinic.  Cash donations can also be mailed or dropped off at the clinic.  There is a donation jar in our lobby.  Feel free to visit Humphrey while you're there!

Update 5/5/09:  We have raised over $800 for Humphrey but still have a long ways to go!  We are still accepting donations on his behalf.

Medically, Humphrey continues to do beyond well.  His diabetes is so well under control he is hardly on any insulin at all for a dog his size!  Behaviorally, Humphrey has developed a little separation anxiety.  But now that he is on an anti-anxiety medication and working with a behaviorist, he is being a very good boy!

We are now trying to work with as many rescue groups as possible to find Humphrey a good home.  The adoption process will occur through our clinic so if you know anyone interested in giving him a loving home, please have them contact the clinic at 970-282-9719.
